Covid-19: 29 more cases in Angola brings the total to 1935 patients

Angola has registered a further 29 infections with the new coronavirus, bringing the total to 1935 cases, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda announced this Monday.

The most recent cases are all from Luanda, 11 male and 18 female.

In the last 24 hours there have been no deaths and four people have been reported as recovered.

Angola has a total of 1935 cases, of which 88 have died, 632 have recovered and 1215 are active, including five critically ill patients with invasive mechanical ventilation and 19 severe.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 770,429 deaths and infected more than 21.7 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a review by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 25,618 confirmed deaths in more than 1.1 million people in 55 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in the number of deaths and Equatorial Guinea in the number of cases. Angola registers 88 deaths and 1935 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 4821 cases), Cape Verde (35 deaths and 3179 cases), Guinea-Bissau (33 deaths and 2149 cases), Mozambique (19 deaths and 2914 cases) and São Tomé e Príncipe (15 deaths and 885 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
