The number of deaths caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the African continent in the last 24 hours was 281 and there were another 9977 infected, with another 10,648 being declared recovered, bringing the total to 834,262, according to the Control and Control Center. Disease Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), which brings together the latest data from official reports of the 55 member countries of this organization.
The highest number of cases and deaths of covid-19 continues to be registered in Southern Africa, with 621,935 infected and 12,637 fatalities.
In this region, South Africa, the most affected country on the continent, accounts for 587,345 infected patients and 11,839 dead.
North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, now has 194,518 people infected and 7,533 dead and in West Africa the number of cases has risen to 147,935 and that of fatalities to 2217.
In the East African region, the number of cases of covid-19 is 102,859 and 2228 deaths and in Central Africa 51,577 cases of infection and 1003 deaths are recorded.
Egypt is the second country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, accounting for 96,475 infected and 5160 deaths, following Algeria, which has 39,027 cases and 1357 fatalities.
Among the five most affected countries are Nigeria, with 49,068 infected and 975 deaths, and Sudan, with 12,314 cases and 798 fatalities.
Among the Portuguese-speaking African countries, Cape Verde leads in number of cases (with 3179 cases and 35 dead), followed by Mozambique (2855 cases and 19 dead), Guinea-Bissau (2117 cases and 33 dead), Angola (1906 infected and 88 dead) and São Tomé and Príncipe (885 cases and 15 dead).
Equatorial Guinea, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), has 4821 infected people and 83 deaths, a number that has remained constant for several weeks.
