Speaking at the end of an extraordinary meeting of the commission, chaired by Victor Hugo Guilherme, Minister of Planning who is also general coordinator of the commission, Hernâni Luís reiterated that, within a two-month time frame, families will be visited by census takers in their homes, within 30 days, aiming to carry out the census.
He assured that the commission's work is ready, once again guaranteeing that they will "be in the homes" of different citizens to carry out the census.
"The work of the multisectoral commission is ready. We will be in the homes of different Angolan citizens and will carry out the general census", he said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.
It is worth remembering that the 2024 census was initially scheduled to begin on July 19th. However, due to logistical issues, the National Statistics Institute (INE) decided to postpone the start date to September 19th.
Regarding this change in date, the spokesperson justified it with an "expansion of work".
"What is happening is a reassessment of the process. We know that the general population census is a work that consists exactly of predicting what the mapping carried out in the cartographic update was in certain provinces of the country, namely Luanda, Huíla and Benguela, which have grown exponentially. This growth requires reinforcement in programming. However, this work was reevaluated", explained the person in charge, quoted by Jornal de Angola.
Among other aspects, he also said that there are personnel available to operate the 60,000 tablets, which will enable accurate collection, as well as informing that the results of the classified candidates should be released in the next few days, without mentioning specific dates.
