Although he did not provide details, he pointed to the entry into operation of the aforementioned hospital, located in Luanda, for the end of 2025.
According to João Lourenço, who was speaking to the press after the inauguration of the Cacuaco General Hospital, the country is still unable to provide care to the majority of cancer patients, which is why this is one of the exceptions that are open to the medical board for the treatment abroad, writes Angop.
The head of state stated that the government is attentive to patients with this disease, starting investments in small oncology blocks in tertiary hospital infrastructures.
However, he recalled, the main priority was mainly focused on building infrastructure capable of providing care for two types of diseases: heart and kidney.
Although many hospitals of different degrees have been built, João Lourenço left the caveat that this work has not yet been completed, given that, taking into account the country's needs and population growth, it is still necessary to build other hospitals in other locations, writes Angop.
On the occasion, he also stated that the Government is committed to bringing the pharmaceutical industry to the country, with the aim of reducing imports and costs of medicines, having confirmed that the investment will be completely private, with the State being responsible for providing the necessary conditions to make this type of business viable.
It should be noted that, in recent years, the country has seen its National Health System grow. According to Angop, the investment made, since 2017, by the Government in the construction, expansion and recovery of more than 163 health units, 155 of which are dedicated to primary care, also allowed the number of available beds to increase from 13,426 to 37,808, between 2017 and 2022.
It should be noted that the General Hospital of Cacuaco, named 'Heróis de Kifangondo', was inaugurated this Friday by the head of State, in a ceremony where he was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.
