In relation to the Huambo Regional Military Hospital, the minister left the guarantee that the hospital unit, which has a hospitalization capacity of 200 beds, will be completed next year.
Speaking last Saturday, at the end of an inspection visit to the works, João Ernesto dos Santos assured that the works on the aforementioned Huambo hospital unit "will be completed by the end of 2025".
Quoted in a statement from the provincial government of Huambo, to which VerAngola had access, the holder of the portfolio of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland said that the hospital has a physical execution of around 22 percent and a financial execution of 17 Percent.
On the occasion, the minister informed that the ministry headed by him "will continue to make efforts to maintain the quality of medical and medication assistance for members of the Angolan Armed Forces".
Furthermore, he also said that the Government "expects the construction of two health units in the near future, in the southern military region, Huíla province and another in the northern military region, in the province of Uíge", the note reads.
Work on the Huambo Regional Military Hospital – which will be "the second after Luanda in terms of medical facilities, with all medical specialties and hospitalization capacity" – began last year.
Works in Cabinda at "good pace"
Days earlier, on Thursday, the minister had been in Cabinda, where he saw the construction of the Cabinda Regional Military Hospital.
According to a statement from the provincial government of Cabinda, to which VerAngola had access, the works are progressing at a "good pace", with the opening of this hospital in November next year.
"The construction work of the Regional Military Hospital of Cabinda, with capacity for 100 beds, including emergency services, outpatient clinic, laboratory, surgical block, dialysis, functional diagnosis, imaging, among others, is progressing at a satisfactory pace", reads the note.
The aforementioned hospital is being built in Buco-Ngoio, in a project carried out by Mota-Engil Angola, subcontracted by Vamed, and which is budgeted at 60 million dollars.
This infrastructure, says the statement, "should be inaugurated in November 2025, as part of the celebrations of 50 years of National Independence".
On his inspection visit, the minister "was satisfied with the way the infrastructure works are taking place".
Moxico should also have Eastern Regional Military Hospital ready in the second half of 2025
And as there are no two without three, last Saturday, the minister was also in Moxico, where he verified the level of physical execution of the construction works at the Eastern Regional Military Hospital (in Moxico).
Quoted in a statement from the provincial government of Moxico, João Ernesto dos Santos said that he "assured that the work is expected to be delivered in November 2025".
The contractor responsible for the works of the future unit, Júlio Júnior, guaranteed that "at the moment the work is going smoothly and the financial execution is 27 percent", and everything is being done "so that the work is delivered and contractual deadlines are met".
"More than 100 local young people gained their first job with the construction of the regional military hospital," he said, quoted in the statement.
