According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, the military hospital "results from the large-scale modernization of the old facilities that served the Armed Forces in the country's capital, creating a hospital unit with new capabilities and equipped with the most modern in the field of health care provision".

Having two buildings with four floors each, the hospital unit, according to Angop, has 160 beds, observation room, emergency room, imaging, laboratory, ultrasound, among other areas, as well as having a professional training component.

On the occasion, João Lourenço reiterated the Executive's commitment to improving health services. Speaking to the press, after the inauguration of the hospital unit, the head of state pointed out that the health sector will always be a priority, so investments will continue, despite difficulties in terms of financial resources for the execution of projects.

The head of state highlighted that the old unit operated in precarious conditions, having been made "a very significant leap forward" despite the work not being fully completed.

According to João Lourenço, the second phase should be completed and delivered by the end of the year and thus the Angolans will have a Military Hospital "up to the prestige" of the armed forces.

In this sense, the head of state praised the contribution of the armed forces to achieving peace in the country, precisely 22 years ago, considering that they deserve a rehabilitated Military Hospital and "much more".

"This hospital unit is being inaugurated on the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation to which, without a shadow of a doubt, the Armed Forces made the greatest contribution. Angolans in general fought to achieve peace, but, if we want to be fair, we have to highlight the military, the armed forces, among Angolans in general, for the contribution they made to peace", he said.

In addition to the hospital now inaugurated, the President recalled that the construction of four other regional hospitals is underway, which could be completed in 2025, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national independence, as well as the construction of a military hospital in the barracks area (Grafanil), which has not yet started.

"We want to make a change in what concerns medical and medication assistance for our soldiers and their families, as well as for the National Police personnel, who also benefit from them", he pointed out, quoted by Angop.

In the civil field, he pointed to the inauguration, in April this year, of the General Hospital of Viana, and during the year the general hospitals of Cacuaco, Sumbe, Ndalatando and Ondjiva.

"As you can see, there is little attention to health and we will put whatever resources are necessary to reduce the deficit we still have in hospital units", said the head of state, adding that the Government's attention will also be focused on the needs to train and hire staff to work in these units.

The Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, said that the unit opened this Thursday is ready to provide highly complex medical services, as well as contributing to the training of health professionals.

The holder of the Health portfolio, cited by Angop, said that the hospital infrastructure will have services from different specialties, ranging from medical to surgical.

On the occasion, João Lourenço was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, by State ministers, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, among other figures linked to the central administration of the State.
