The national police appealed this Thursday to the serenity and urbanity of the militants and sympathizers of the four political parties who will hold their rallies on Saturday, guaranteeing that they are ready to take care of public safety.

In addition to the two great rivals, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), which chose Saturday to measure the pulse of the electorate, in Luanda, also the third political force, the coalition CASA-CE, and the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), convened rallies to mobilize support for the general elections scheduled for 24 August, even before the start of the electoral campaign.

According to the spokesman for the provincial command of Luanda, Nestor Goubel, nothing will be neglected to guarantee everyone's safety during the four political acts, scheduled for different municipalities in Luanda.

"We have the forces in readiness to ensure what will be the wide movement of people and means, we will have many vehicles as well", said the spokesman, referring that the measures taken by the police aim at the safety of the activities, but also the traffic and parking planning.

"We want to appeal to motorists to drive more cautiously, especially (in places) where these activities take place", where agents assigned to the traffic and road safety department are mobilized, he said.

The police official also appealed to militants and supporters of the various political parties that will carry out their activities to "always maintain 'fair play', to maintain an attitude, a behavior of citizenship", recalling that "the party of democracy must be lived in a harmonious way, without disturbing public order and tranquility".

The police "will be at the most of their strength on the street" and prepared to intervene against all those who compromise order or change the tranquility, who "will have a tailored treatment" of the infractions.

Nestor Goubel also urged the participants and especially the leadership of the parties to observe compliance with the measures related to covid-19, namely the use of masks and alcohol gel, taking into account the foreseeable gatherings in these places.

"The Luanda provincial command recalls that this is not the first time that elections have been held, we already have this experience and we all have to be engaged so that it is a successful and peaceful act", stressed the police spokesman.

On the other hand, he noted that "many people" get together for other purposes, whether to change public order or consume alcoholic beverages, which then "slides into acts of incivility and offenses to physical integrity."

"We, the police, will be present to mark and detain the violators", he reinforced, asking for compliance with the police guidelines and that "public security is the biggest motto for this to be a successful activity".

The holding of the rallies also threatens the availability of transport in the capital, since, according to Novo Jornal, several groups of taxi drivers and motorcyclists (known as 'kupapatas') are being recruited to support party activities, as is the case with rental of buses from public urban transport companies.
