Pilgrimage to the sanctuary of “Mamã Muxima” returns in August. Expected over a million pilgrims

The annual pilgrimage to the sanctuary of “Mamã Muxima” returns in August, after being suspended for two years due to covid-19. Domingo de Mello, rector of the Muxima sanctuary, said that more than one million pilgrims are expected to be part of the pilgrimage, however, he said that there are still possibilities for the estimated number to be exceeded.

He also took the opportunity to mention that the design of various commissions - guided by the Church and Luanda authorities - is continuing in the areas of liturgy, safety, sanitation, on-site health and firefighters, with a view to ensuring the well-being of the faithful, writes Angop.

The event takes place under the motto "Mamã Muxima, in your hands we place the people of Angola" and aims to guide people to act with harmony and peace in the elections.

Furthermore, promoting the rescue of values is the main purpose of the event, writes Angop.

The pilgrimage to the shrine - considered the largest Marian center in sub-Saharan Africa and which is located in the municipality of Quiçama - returns two years after being paralyzed because of the pandemic.

This year's edition is scheduled to take place between the 4th and 7th of August, taking place in a different month than usual. The pilgrimage usually takes place in the first two weeks of September, but this year the date was moved to the previous month because of the elections, scheduled for 24 August.

Among the preparations for the event, the fact that the main stage has already been set up stands out.
