CPLP says that the death of JES is a “great loss for Angola” and for “the Portuguese-speaking world”

The Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) notes "with regret" the death of former president José Eduardo dos Santos, which he says is a "great loss for Angola and also for the Portuguese-speaking world".

In a note of regret issued in the early afternoon, Zacarias da Costa notes "with regret" the death of President José Eduardo dos Santos and highlights the "great loss for Angola and, also, for the Portuguese-speaking world".

The "founding president of the CPLP, José Eduardo dos Santos was always a militant and tireless defender of the projection of the Portuguese language and the consolidation of our Community", adds the organization's executive secretary.

In the statement, Zacarias da Costa "expresses the feelings of sorrow and solidarity with the pain of family and friends".

Angola is one of the nine member states of the CPLP and currently holds the rotating presidency of the organization.
