Politics Death of José Eduardo dos Santos

Government creates commission to organize funeral of former president

This Friday, the Government created a State commission to organize the funeral ceremony of former President José Eduardo dos Santos, which includes 11 ministers and the governor of Luanda.

:

In a presidential order, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço decrees that the commission will integrate the Minister of State for the Social Area, who will be coordinator, as well as the Ministers of State and Heads of the Civil House and Military House, Ministers of National Defense and Veterans of the Motherland; of the Interior; the Territory Administration; of Foreign Affairs; Justice and Human Rights; of Finance; of health; Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication; Governor of the Province of Luanda.

The funeral ceremony is not consensual, as the eldest daughters of José Eduardo dos Santos, who died in Barcelona, do not want to return to Angola, because they face legal proceedings or because their lives are allegedly at risk.

Another son, José Filomeno "Zenu" dos Santos, was sentenced to prison as part of a corruption case, pending his appeal, and said recently that his passport was being withheld by the Angolan authorities.
