According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, the funeral took place at the Army Headquarters.
"The Head of State, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, laid a wreath of flowers next to the deceased's urn during the funeral, which took place at the Army Headquarters (former RI 20), before going to bury him", the note reads.
The President also wrote in the book of condolences, where he "highlighted the life trajectory of the nationalist Brito Sozinho, who he considered an example of dedication and commitment to the cause of the Angolan homeland, and expressed his condolences to the grieving family".
"While still very young, he left the country to join those abroad who were carrying out activities in support of the National Liberation Struggle", he noted in his message.
According to the statement, the head of state also highlighted that after national independence, the nationalist "developed an active diplomatic career, having been ambassador to numerous African and European countries".
"Since 2019, Brito António Sozinho has been working as an assistant to the diplomatic corps, remaining committed to national causes", the statement reads.
In turn, Luzia Inglês, "one of the pioneers of the National Liberation Struggle, recalled the active role played by the deceased in achieving the country's independence".
On the occasion, he mentioned that Brito Sozinho should be remembered "with great honor": "He was a brother. He should be remembered with great honor".
"Ambassador Marcos Barrica highlighted, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the career of the first director of the State Protocol, immediately after Angola's independence", the statement says.
According to the ambassador, Brito Sozinho was a "consistent public servant who was committed to the various tasks assigned to him in order to ensure Angola's continued affirmation in the world of nations".
"Throughout his career as a diplomat, he devoted himself to defending the interests of his people, promoting dialogue and multilateralism, and tirelessly seeking political consensus to achieve the most pressing aspirations of Angolan foreign policy", said Marcos Barrica, quoted in the statement.
In addition to the presidential couple and their families, the Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, members of the Executive, high-ranking officials from the three branches of the Angolan Armed Forces, and friends were also present at the ceremony.
It is worth remembering that Brito Sozinho died last Tuesday, at the age of 84, in Lisbon (Portugal), after suffering from illness.
