The Assistance Agreement for the Operation of the New International Airport of Luanda Dr. António Agostinho Neto, whose execution runs from August until 2025, was signed by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, and the Secretary General of ICAO, Juan Carlos Salazar.

According to the press release from the Ministry of Transport, the agreement includes the monitoring and supervision of the process relating to the operation of the new airport, its certification process and the transfer of management of the airport's operation to the concessionaire that will be selected by public tender.

The Minister of Transport, quoted in the communiqué, expressed satisfaction with ICAO's recognition of the work done and the progress made in the field of Angolan civil aviation.

"I am delighted by the complimentary way we were welcomed and treated here in Seoul by ICAO during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium. We were received at the highest level by the Secretary General and his team, as we were by my South Korean counterpart", underlined Ricardo de Abreu.

The Ministry of Transport is preparing the conditions for the operational transition of the new international airport of Luanda Dr. António Agostinho Neto (AIAAN), whose construction is in the final stages, with the start of loading operations expected shortly after the undertaking's inauguration.

This operational transition, stresses the statement, will take place in all areas of the civil aviation system, with a view to obtaining satisfactory results in its certification process.

"Consequently, and evidencing the strategic nature of this transfer project, the ministry requested the assistance of the ICAO technician for the supervision of the operational aspects, having this request culminated in the signature of the agreement initialed today between the parts", stresses the document.

For the implementation of Project AGO23801, ICAO will deploy an expert in airport operational assistance to Angola, who will assist the Ministry of Transport in the necessary supervision and follow-up activities.
