The company is enrolled in the privatization program (Propriv), which was extended in 2023 for another three years, but instead of selling the shareholdings, as foreseen in the initial program (2019-2022), the modality chosen will be the assignment of the right of exploitation and management.
"Angola Telecom, within its strategy, will be able to concession its operational and commercial activity, but there will be no entry of third parties in its share capital", confirmed the minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira.
Regarding the change in decision, he considered that "it is characteristic of the evolution of the sector", taking into account other international experiences, "which did not go well and which caused losses" to these countries.
"In other sectors of the economy and in other parts of the world there are advances and setbacks in this type of decision", stressed Mário Oliveira.
The holder of the Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication portfolio added that the State "will continue to support the company in structural projects as it does with other public companies".
Last week, the president of the State Asset Management and Participation Institute (IGAPE), Patrício Vilar, announced that Angola Telecom closed 2022 with positive results, after the Government had recently injected more than 8 billion kwanzas in bonds.
Angola Telecom has 800 customers in the country who owe the public company 18 billion kwanzas.
