Country will have fiber optic connection with Zambia

The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, revealed that the country will have, as of this Wednesday, a fiber optic connection with Zambia, aimed at strengthening the technological connection with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Speaking to the press this Tuesday, at the end of a visit by a SADC parliamentary delegation to the ministry, the official clarified that the connection starts with the initial tests "to give substance to it", according to a statement from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information and Communication Technologies, which VerAngola had access to.

On the occasion, Mário Oliveira highlighted the fact that there was already a similar connection with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and with Namibia, taking the opportunity to announce "for the next few months with the Republic of Congo".

During the visit, the holder of the portfolio for Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication "discussed the main projects that the sector has carried out for the development of the country, with emphasis on the space project", having, in this context, referred that, soon, Angola will provide satellite services to Zambia and South Africa, "for the areas of agriculture, migration control, infrastructure and environment".

Thus, adds the statement, the official considered "the meeting with public finance officials to help SADC countries" as opportune, having also reiterated the country's openness to strengthening cooperation.

The minister also stressed that "without money, nothing can be done, but with everyone's support we can create robust systems for the continent and for the world".

On the occasion, the minister also referred to "the commitment to training staff, public Internet, modernization of public media, as well as Angola Telecom".

It should be noted that the delegation of SADC parliamentarians, headed by the Zambian deputy, Warren Mwambazi, is in Luanda "for a two-day visit, within the scope of the Training program on the Public Finance Inspection Process, promoted by the Secretariat of the of Auditors of SADC", says the communiqué, which adds that the delegation, in addition to the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, also visited the Court of Auditors and the Ministry of Finance.
