Government will maintain travel restrictions with “step-by-step” entries

The Minister of Health said that trips to Angola will be made "in stages" to "protect the country" and admitted that the health fence in Luanda will remain in the face of the increase in cases of covid-19.

:

“We don't want to continue to import more disease. We are in the situation where we are importing, because the focus came from outside, ”said Sílvia Lutucuta, at a press conference in Luanda, when asked about the need for testing imposed on travelers, according to the decree 180/2020 that regulates travel to and from Luanda, from 30 June.

The official, who did not clarify whether the date foreseen for the opening of the air border will remain, stressed that "everything that is in the decree depends on the epidemiological evolution".

As for testing "it is a good measure" to ensure that those arriving by plane "do not come contaminated", having an additional period of quarantine to safeguard any possibility of further contagion on the route.

The minister revealed that humanitarian flights have been carried out, returning Angolans who were in Zimbabwe and Zambia, “soon” they will arrive from South Africa, after Turkey, not to mention Portugal, where most of the citizens are concentrated. they want to return to Angola.

"Then we will see how we are going to manage the citizens who are in other countries," he said.

“It has to be in stages, we have to see what our conditions are”, highlighted Sílvia Lutucuta, adding that people have to be placed in institutional quarantine because it is this measure “that solves the problem” of containing imported cases of covid- 19.

The head of the Health department explained that those who return have to “come in groups, everything is well organized”.

"We started with the smallest groups, the most vulnerable groups and that is how we are giving treatment at the level of the multisectoral commission" to solve the problem of citizens who were in a difficult situation in these countries, he detailed.

The minister pointed out that returns must be phased in as it is not possible to make “several flights with 1000 people” every day, and there must be places to accommodate travelers arriving from countries with community circulation of the virus and who will have to quarantine.

“We must protect our country”, he reinforced, reiterating that the borders are not yet open.

The official stressed that "the health fence of Luanda continues" and that there is "a great probability" of maintaining the fence, given the evolution of the epidemiological situation that "is inspiring care".

Angola currently registers 186 cases of covid-19 infection, 10 of which resulted in death.
