Government discusses cutting 420 management positions

The Interministerial Commission for State Reform meets this Tuesday to discuss the proposal to reduce the number of public institutes from 144 to 102. According to the proposal, these changes should lead to the extinction of 420 leading positions.

The law foresees that around 29 per cent of public institutes will cease to exist, thus leading to a reduction in the number of managerial positions.

Currently, the country's leadership and management staff is made up of 1440 members. However, with the cuts that the Executive is planning to make, around 420 positions are expected to be extinguished, bringing the total to 1020.

According to the newspaper O País, these cuts will allow the government to save around 153 million kwanzas.

"The studies carried out and now listed demonstrate that the public machine can, in fact, be served with a much smaller number of institutions and the like, also guaranteeing the executive considerable gains in the areas of reduction of public spending and rationalisation of administrative structures with positive implications for increasing efficiency in the services to be provided to citizens," indicated a source, in statements to the same newspaper.

The report, called "Report on the Reform and Redimensioning of Public Institutes", was prepared by a technical group coordinated by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff, Adão Almeida.

The team concluded that there are repeated services, that is, there are services that perform the same functions in different public institutes.

It should be recalled that at the end of March, João Lourenço decided to reshuffle the Government, having ended up with seven ministries.
