Government begins to cut public spending and ends with seven ministries

The Executive decided to reduce the number of ministries within it. For this reason, the current 28 ministries will become 21. The decision was advanced this Friday by the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, at the end of the 3rd Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers.

:

As structured, the Ministries of Culture, Tourism, Environment, Homeland Veterans, Telecommunications, Fisheries, Spatial Planning and Trade no longer exist.

The cut resulted in the merger of the following ministries: Ministry of National Defence and Veterans of the Homeland, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transport, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning and Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The matters that were previously dealt with in these ministries will be transferred to the remaining ministries, which will remain unchanged.

The Minister also indicated that this cut in public spending will not only focus on investment and capital. The reform of the State will be accelerated with the reduction of structures with functions and attributions that are placed at the level of local administration of the State.

This decision is part of a package of contingency fiscal measures that was approved by the Government in view of the current adverse environment, determined by the fall in oil prices and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
