Doctors' Union accuses minister of "psychological torture" and reiterates demonstration

The National Union of Doctors of Angola (SINMEA) on Tuesday accused the Minister of Health of promoting “psychological torture” against these professionals in the contests and reiterated that “a mega demonstration” is in preparation demanding the integration of all doctors.

SINMEA's position, expressed in a statement, followed the statements of Silvia Lutucuta who, on Monday, rejected criticisms of public tenders for the admission of doctors, stressing that their entry into the civil service cannot be arbitrary and that one of the assessment assumptions is the grade.

"We do not see any reason for doctors to speak up because those who were not positive will not even enter, they have no condition", said the head of the Health portfolio, adding that there are many medical errors that must be avoided and that the country must ensure providing good health care.

In reply to the minister, SINMEA repudiates the “shocking and devaluing” statements, considering “this psychological torture” to which Angolan doctors are subjected in public tenders to be very sad.

“Your Excellency's constant devaluation of the national medical profession is a reason for the demotivation of the profession in providing services”, criticizes the union.

For SINMEA, the admission test to the public exam empties “the seven years of training of a doctor” and the process suffered “several atrocities” with candidates to take tests from different grades, grades that did not correspond to the test key and inadequate equipment to correct the evidence, which had an effect on the results.

The union also questions the fact that the skills assessment is only made to Angolan doctors, and not to expatriates, who “are entitled to transportation, decent accommodation and an average salary of US $ 5,000 / month”, rights that are denied to Angolans .

SINMEA also speaks of a “glaring lack of doctors” in Angola, which has less than 8 thousand of these professionals, in contrast to the 30 thousand that would be needed, which is reflected in work overload, floods in public hospitals, delay in care of the patient, poor quality of service provision, physical, mental and social wear of the doctor in service and constant conflicts between users and health workers.

In the statement, signed by the president of SINMEA, Adriano Manuel, and the provincial secretary of Luanda, Miguel Sebastião, the union leaders reiterate “that a mega demonstration is being prepared with the participation of doctors, nurses, diagnostic and therapeutic technicians, administrative workers, other unions and the population in general ”, with the objective of calling for the admission of all doctors enrolled in the Order and who are unemployed, as well as the integration of nurses and diagnostic technicians.

The health unions also promise to paralyze all activities after the state of calamity if their demands are not met, remembering that they are awaiting a position from the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on the manifest that was delivered to him.
