Although he recognized the government's efforts to modernize the aforementioned laboratory, in light of a program that has already absorbed more than 26.2 million euros, Carlos Alberto, Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, stated that it is necessary to take into account the implementation of the complementary stage to re-equip the entity.
In statements at the start of the visit, cited by Angop, the government official said that the aforementioned phase is valued at 73.8 million euros, and is aimed at obtaining cutting-edge equipment.
According to the holder of the Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing portfolio, the laboratory currently carries out 233 types of tests, as well as serving 80 institutions, as a result of its rehabilitation, adding that, nowadays, it is possible to improve studies, characterization paving, inspection of buildings and assessment of built heritage.
Carlos Alberto considered that investing in the country's Engineering Laboratory – which has existed for over 60 years – is to guarantee a higher quality of major public works, attributing greater quality, as well as sustainability to public spending, through a higher quality of infrastructures, which should be more valued over time, serving the next generations, writes Angop.
