According to the Angolan Swimming Federation (FAN) – in a note to which VerAngola had access –, the gold was 'stolen' by Namibia, which totaled 2757 points (1330 points for men and 1427 points for women).
Mozambique completes the podium, taking third place with 2068 points (1114 for men and 954 for women).
In terms of medals, the country won 74 medals, including 30 gold, 24 silver and the remaining 20 bronze.
"The Angolan swimming team is second in the XIX African Swimming Championship of Zone IV in pure swimming with 2355 points and 74 medals, 30 gold, 24 silver and 20 bronze", reads the FAN note.
Namibia once again occupied the first position in terms of medals, with 117 (45 gold, 36 silver and 36 bronze). Angola follows with 74 medals, and here the novelty happens in the third position – which, contrary to the points – is occupied by South Africa (48 medals, of which 14 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze).
Still with regard to medals, Mozambique lost the third position to South Africa by just one medal. The Mozambicans won 47 medals (12 gold, 22 silver and 13 bronze), thus placing fourth.
It should be noted that Angola hosted the championship, which took place between the 3rd and 7th of May, and was attended by over 300 swimmers from 13 countries.
According to Angop, with this classification, Angola repeats the achievement of 2015, the year in which it won silver and was also host of the event.
