The agreement regarding the Project to Strengthen Transmission Systems in the Southern Region of Angola, whose signing ceremony took place in Luanda, was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the Japanese Ambassador to Angola, Sano Hiroaki.
"The legal instrument, initialed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the Japanese Ambassador to Angola, Sano Hiroaki, aims to expand the capacity and resilience of electricity transmission infrastructure in the provinces of Namibe, Huíla, Cuando, Cubango, and Cunene," the government said in a statement that VerAngola had access to.
"The purpose is to promote reliable access to electricity, with a direct impact on the economic and social development of these regions, in addition to contributing to the country's energy sustainability," the statement added.
On the occasion, Téte António recognized the importance of this instrument, "considering it a fundamental step that precedes the formal signing of other legal instruments within the framework of bilateral cooperation."
"The signing of this agreement takes place on the eve of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), to be held in Yokohama, Japan, from the 20th to the 22nd of this month," the statement reads, adding that, on the sidelines of this event, both countries "may establish new commitments in various areas, with a view to boosting and increasing bilateral cooperation."
The ceremony was attended by Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, among others.
