Angola with 50 confirmed cases of covid-19 and one more death

After 72 hours without new confirmed cases of covid-19 infection, the Secretary of State for Public Health announced on Monday two new 'positives' in the country, as well as the third death caused by the virus.

Among the newly infected - who now number 50 - is a 25-year-old nurse who works at a hospital center in a private health care network in Luanda. This case becomes the first of health professionals to contract the virus in the country.

The second infection confirmed this Monday is also the third death caused by covid-19 in Angola. He is an 82-year-old man who returned to the country in February from Portugal, before the pandemic. According to Angop, the citizen had other associated pathologies, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

After death, this was confirmed to be also a case of contagion by covid-19, and it is now being investigated whether it could be the first case of community contamination in the country. The citizen was a resident of the urban district of Maianga, in Luanda.

Angola thus counts 50 positive cases of infection by covid-19. Of this total, there are three deaths, 17 recovered and 30 active but clinically stable cases. It is also known that, of those infected, 22 are cases of local transmission.

6605 samples were processed, with another 547 being processed. To date, there are 442 suspected cases to be investigated and 1176 contacts to be followed.

In the institutional quarantine centers are 1214 citizens.
