Cases of covid-19 have not changed in the last 72 hours from new positive tests for infection. The country continues to register 48 positive cases of which 29 were active, two deaths and 17 recovered.

The numbers were put forward this Sunday by the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, during the usual press conference on the development of the disease in the country. According to him, since the beginning of the outbreak, 6500 samples have been processed, 48 of which were positive and 5947 negative. Franco Mufinda indicated that 505 samples are still being processed.

The secretary also revealed that the number of people in institutional quarantine has changed: 18 people have been released (eight in Uige, five in Cabinda, two in Bié and Cunene and one in Lunda Sul). There are still 790 people in quarantine.

He also reported that 21 of the infected cases occurred through local transmission.

It is recalled that the Secretary of State for Public Health recently revealed that the country would adopt a different testing method.

Angola will now use a new laboratory method to speed up the covid-19 testing procedure and thus have access to the results more quickly.

Euclides Sacomboio, a specialist in biochemistry and molecular biology, quoted by Angop, revealed that Angola will begin to use the Genexpert method, which will reduce diagnostic time.

According to the responsible, who spoke in the space "Conversations at CIAM", until then Angola has been using the RT-PCR method that takes between 48 and 72 hours to process the test in laboratory. With this new method, Genexpert, the processing time will be 24 hours.

Euclides Sacomboio has ensured that these two methods are very reliable to detect the presence of the virus.
