Three new cases of local transmission increase the number of covid-19 infected to 48

Angola registered three new cases of infection by covid-19, all of which were locally transmitted, bringing the total number of infected to 48, announced the Secretary of State for Public Health.

According to Franco Mufinda, they are residents of the Hoji Ya Henda neighborhood, neighbors of the Guinea-Conakry citizen known as “case 31” and also nationals of this country: a 36-year-old man and two women, 24 and 29 years old.

The patients, who live in an area currently under a health fence, were already in institutional quarantine. Currently, 688 people are isolated in this way.

Among the 48 cases identified, 21 are locally transmitted.

Of the 6136 samples collected so far, 48 have been positive, 5607 have been negative and 481 are being processed.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 297,000 deaths and infected more than 4.3 million people in 196 countries and territories.

In Africa, there are 2475 confirmed deaths, with almost 72,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the most recent statistics on the continent's pandemic.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Guinea-Bissau leads in number of infections (913 cases and three deaths), followed by Equatorial Guinea (439 cases and four deaths), Cape Verde (315 cases and two deaths) deaths), São Tomé and Príncipe (231 cases and seven dead), Mozambique (115 cases) and Angola (45 infected and two dead).

The Portuguese-speaking country most affected by the pandemic is Brazil, with more than 13,100 deaths and about 189 thousand infections.
