Shipments of Portuguese emigrants in Angola rose 10.13 percent in the first quarter of 2020

Shipments from the Portuguese in Angola increased 10.13 percent in the first quarter, to 45.34 million euros, while funds sent by Angolans in Portugal fell 12.45 percent, to 2.32 million euros.

According to data from the Bank of Portugal, released this Thursday on the regulator's website, shipments from the Portuguese working in Angola from January to March of this year represented 45.34 million euros, compared to 41.17 million euros sent in the first three months of last year.

As usual, the amounts of remittances from Angola represent almost all of the funds sent by the Portuguese working in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), which rose 9.22 percent in the first quarter, from 43.16 million from January to March 2019 to 47.14 from January to March of this year.

Conversely, Angolans working in Portugal sent 2.32 million euros to their country in the first quarter, which is equivalent to a reduction of 12.45 percent from the 2.65 million sent from January to March of last year.

In the world total, remittances sent by the Portuguese rose 0.17 per cent, rising from 874.93 million in the first three months of 2019 to 876.42 from January to March this year.

Conversely, foreigners working in Portugal sent 118.96 million euros to their countries, which represents a slight drop of 0.88 per cent compared to the 119.91 million sent in the same period of 2019.
