Angola records 421 deaths from cholera and 11,307 cases since January

Health authorities reported on Wednesday three deaths and 158 new cases of cholera in 11 of the 17 provinces affected by the outbreak, declared in January, bringing the total number of deaths and infections to 421 and 11,307.

According to the press release from the Ministry of Health, 55 cases were reported in the province of Luanda, 30 others in Cuanza Norte, 25 in Benguela, 16 in Malanje, 12 in Bengo, six in Icolo and Bengo, six in Cuanza Sul, three in Huambo, two in Cubango, two in Namibe and one in Cabinda.

The three deaths were recorded in the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Norte and Malanje.

In the last 24 hours, 76 people were discharged and currently 885 people are hospitalized with cholera.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, 11,307 cases of the disease have been registered, of which 4,793 in Luanda, followed by Bengo with 2749 infections, Cuanza Norte with 1166 cases, Benguela with 989, Icolo and Bengo with 926, the affected regions with the highest number reported.

As for deaths, of the 421 deaths recorded since the beginning of the outbreak, 176 were in Luanda, 109 in Bengo, 48 in Cuanza Norte, 34 in Benguela, 26 in Icolo and Bengo, 12 in Malanje, 10 in Cuanza Sul, three in Zaire and three in Cabinda.
