Cholera outbreak has caused 418 deaths and 11,149 cases since January

Angola has recorded 10 deaths and 200 new cases of cholera in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases and 418 deaths since the outbreak began last January, the Ministry of Health announced this Tuesday.

The cholera outbreak update released by health authorities indicates that, as of Thursday, ten of the 17 affected provinces had registered new cases, with Benguela and Luanda leading the list with 57 and 53 new infections.

Regarding deaths, half of the deaths recorded in the last 24 hours were reported in Luanda.

On Thursday, 100 people were discharged, with 802 others remaining hospitalized with cholera.

Since the beginning of this outbreak, 418 people have died, of which 175 in Luanda, the capital and epicenter of the disease, with Bengo province having the highest number of deaths.

From January until now, 11,149 cases have been reported, of which 4738 were in Luanda, followed by Bengo, with 2737 infections.
