The president of FIBA-Africa, speaking to the press at the end of the observation visit, said he left with a "good impression" of that province, as the facilities were in an intact state and there was no need for new construction, but rather to restore them.
This recovery, according to the official, is "necessary", as there are no conditions to host the games "if they are held today", but there is the possibility of mobilizing resources so that the work can begin in January of next year.
Among other aspects, the person in charge, cited by Angop, also said that due to the geographical positioning of the pavilion, it can be put to better use once rehabilitated, given that it has to pay for itself, preventing it from later reaching a high degree of deterioration.
Also speaking on the occasion was Moniz Silva, president of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), highlighting that the province of Huíla has decent hotel infrastructure and the challenge is to see whether the government is capable of rehabilitating sports infrastructures, adding that the federation is not responsible for the rehabilitation of sports enterprises, but the provincial and central governments are.
He said they are still seeing if they can ensure that the continental competition does not just take place in the capital. "We are seeing if we can ensure that this event is not just in Luanda, but in as many provinces as possible, so that young people can have entertainment and a sport that helps to take care of their health. The governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, quoted in a brief note from the provincial government, to which VerAngola had access, assured that "during this year the conditions required to host one of the Afrobasket'2025 series, which the country will host, will be resolved".
