Alexandre Santos admits impasse in renewal with Petro de Luanda

The coach of Petro de Luanda, the Portuguese Alexandre Santos, denied this Monday, in statements to Lusa, that he will leave command of the two-time Angolan champions at the end of the season, but admitted that there was an impasse in renewing the contract.

The Portuguese coach, who did not elaborate on his answers, reveals that in January he was invited by the club's management to sign another year of contract, but has not yet accepted, due to "some issues between the parties".

"I was invited by the club to renew in January, and therefore, I could have signed a long time ago, but I understood that we should continue the talks, due to some issues between the parties, and that is where we remain. Especially because there are other things well most important issues to resolve at this time," he assured.

Alexandre Santos' reaction comes days after the national and international press reported that the Portuguese coach would leave command of the Angolan team at the end of the season, due to the recent elimination of the two-time Angolan champions in the quarter-finals of the African Champions League, information that the Tricolor 'helmsman' denied it.

"As for false information, associating my non-renewal with elimination from the Champions League, I want to remember that in Africa's biggest competition, in three consecutive seasons, we achieved more victories, more goals scored, fewer goals conceded and more points for the CAF [Confederação Africana de Futebol] ranking than all of Angolan football in 30 years of African competitions...", he highlighted.

In recent weeks, it was reported that Alexandre Santos will have an agreement with Moroccan side Wydad de Casablanca, while still being under the watchful eye of other big-name clubs in African football, information that, in a word, the Portuguese coach said does not correspond to the truth: "I deny it".

In Girabola, Petro de Luanda is in third, with 37 points, and four behind leader Desportivo da Lunda Sul, nine days before the end of the national football championship.
