According to the monthly summary released by the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels, the country produced 31.48 million barrels in May, while the production of natural gas associated with oil reached 81 billion cubic feet.
Most of this production was reinjected into the reservoirs to maintain pressure and ensure oil extraction, some was sent to the Angola LNG (ALNG) plant, located in Soyo, and some was used to generate power for the platforms.
Despite the drop in oil production, ALNG recorded a slightly above-expected performance, with 4.48 million barrels of oil equivalent produced in May, 0.16 percent more than estimated.
This translated into a daily average of around 145,000 barrels of oil equivalent, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), propane, butane and condensates.
Of the total produced, almost 29 million barrels were exported, while around 1.79 million barrels were destined for the Luanda Refinery to supply the domestic market.
Angola is, along with Nigeria, the largest oil producer in Africa and continues to rely heavily on crude oil to guarantee tax revenues and foreign exchange.
