Camacupa sells 4000 tons of maize to REA through Carrinho Agri

The municipality of Camacupa (province of Bié), sold the first tons of corn to the Strategic Food Reserve (REA), through Carrinho Agri. The deal, which took place last Friday, included the sale of a total of 4000 tonnes of the said cereal, raised in Camacupa.

According to Adelmir da Silva, director of agronomy at Carrinho Agri, the idea is to obtain a total of 13,000 tonnes of maize in this area of Angola.

Cited by Angop, the official informed that this is a project started a year ago, taking the opportunity to underline that the families covered used, in October last year, fertilizer, urea, seeds and potassium.

Furthermore, Adelmir da Silva – speaking during the opening of the campaign to buy food products in Bié, cited by Angop – also took the opportunity to mention that Carrinho Agri also operates in Benguela, Huíla, Huambo, Malanje and Cuanza Sul, in which 3000 tons of corn already stored were obtained.

However, he advanced, the objective is to reach 100 thousand tons of maize and 20 of beans, in order to reinforce the REA.

According to Angop, this process has the involvement of 279 field technicians from the six provinces, however, that figure could increase to 755 technicians, mainly young people trained by the Medium Agrarian Institutes in Angola.

The program aims to ensure self-sufficiency in corn production, according to the official, who said that this is already a fact in the country.

According to Angop, a total of 8800 families have been registered who will be able to sell maize directly to the reserve, as part of the promotion of production and expansion of cultivation areas in Cuito, Camacupa and Andulo.

Camacupa farmers, in turn, considered the initiative a way to make their lives easier, as it helped to sell the product.
