In a message posted on the President's official Facebook page, João Lourenço refers that the "conquest and maintenance of peace" constitutes the "challenge of every Angolan".

"Conquering and maintaining peace, the opposite of a wild state in which children of the same homeland set out for reciprocal destruction, constitutes the challenge of every Angolan", reads the publication.

The head of state also mentions that "there is therefore no prospect of growth when an economy is forced to invest in lethal means to defend itself against an invasion or counteract a subversion that bets on general chaos".

Finally, he leaves a word of congratulations to all those who are determined to maintain peace: "Congratulations to all Angolans for their determination to maintain this valuable asset".

It should be noted that the country celebrates, this Tuesday (April 4), 21 years of peace and national reconciliation, being the date that marks the end of a war that lasted more than 20 years.

The achievement of peace dates back to April 4, 2002, the date on which the Government and UNITA signed the peace agreement.

According to Angop, the treatment of the peace agreement began in March 2002, with the general of the army, Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda, of the Angolan Armed Forces and the chief of staff of UNITA, general Abreu Muego 'Kamorteiro', initial a ceasefire agreement. The military agreement was initialed on March 30th of that year, in Moxico, but only a few days later, on April 4th, 2002, Luena's Memorandum of Understanding took shape in Luanda, also refers to Angop.

This year, the central act of the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation is hosted by the province of Namibe, in an act chaired by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote.

It should be recalled that, within the scope of that date, the President will also decorate several personalities who fought for national independence, peace, democracy and reconciliation.
