Portuguese Finance Minister is in Angola and has a meeting scheduled with João Lourenço and Vera Daves

The Minister of Finance of Portugal, Fernando Medina, is on an official trip to Angola until April 6, during which he will hold a meeting with his counterpart, Vera Daves de Sousa, culminating in the signing of a cooperation agreement in the field of Finance Public.

The information was provided by the Angolan Ministry of Finance, which added that the agreement will be signed next Wednesday, April 5th, at 9:00 am, in the meeting room of the ministry's headquarters building.

He also made it known that the said document was part of technical cooperation actions to be developed by the two ministries, with an impact on budgetary and fiscal matters, treasury management, financing and public debt.

The Cooperation Protocol between Angola and Portugal also aims to contribute to the training of services and technical staff, using, for this purpose, the valences that the Portuguese part will offer on public finance management.

These actions are part of the content defined in the Strategic Cooperation Program 2018-2022 established between the two States by the respective ministries responsible for external relations.

It is also envisaged that cooperation in public finances will be included in the Strategic Cooperation Program 2023-2027, which should be signed soon.

According to a statement made available to VerAngola, the work agenda for Minister Fernando Medina's visit also includes an audience granted by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, a meeting with the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Manuel Nunes Júnior, as well as as with the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, as well as technical meetings with representatives of the National Bank of Angola, the Financial Information Unit, the Studies and International Relations Office and the Public Debt Management Unit.

The delegation headed by the Portuguese person in charge of Finance will also visit the Project for the Sanctuary and Requalification of Vila da Muxima, which is part of Portugal's funding line.

In addition to Fernando Medina, the delegation includes the minister's chief of staff, the economic and communication adviser, the diplomatic adviser, as well as the deputy general director of the Planning, Strategy, Evaluation and International Relations Office.

"Angola and Portugal are countries that retain strong historical ties of cooperation, friendship and trust, based on linguistic and cultural proximity, mutual respect, and political-diplomatic and economic dialogue. Institutional cooperation between the two States has evolved dynamically over the years, in various areas such as health, education, training, agriculture, environment, energy, water, justice, security and defence, among others", recalls the Ministry of Finance.
