PR gives 'green light' to urgent expenditure to install antenna on Angosat-2

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, approved an urgent expenditure to install a ground antenna on Angosat-2. If everything goes as planned, the satellite should be put into orbit in the first half of next year.

:

The head of state's approval to execute the expense and formalize the opening of an urgent contracting process to install the antenna came in the form of a presidential dispatch, Novo Jornal reports.

According to the same newspaper, the document does not reveal the amount that will be spent with the purchase of the KA Band gateway antenna, but indicates that the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media will be responsible for approving all the procedures taken within the framework of the contract.

This antenna will serve to "monetize the capabilities foreseen in Angosat after its launch", which should take place in the first half of 2022.

It should be recalled that Russia and Angola had already signed an agreement for the production of a first satellite, Angosat-1. However, after being launched into space in 2017, the device lost contact with Earth. Thus, a new agreement was reached in 2018 for the construction of a second satellite to replace Angosat-1.
