First-line health professionals to stay in hotels

The health professionals who are "in the front line" of the fight against covid-19 will be staying in hotels, Health Minister Silvia Lutucuta announced this Wednesday.

:

"Hotel units have been defined that have already begun to welcome our health professionals, who are in a situation of risk, not to return home and increase the risk for their families," he said at a press conference in Luanda.

"By the end of tomorrow [Thursday] all frontline professionals will be accommodated in these units," Lutucuta said.

Angola registered two new cases of coronavirus infection on Wednesday, bringing the total number to 19, all of which related to passengers mostly from Portugal, one from Brazil and one from South Africa.

The head of the health department said that the "number of cases has increased, but in a very defined population," with no community circulation.

Regarding people currently in home quarantine, she said they are being monitored by the authorities, although several of these people, despite signing a term of commitment, have not provided correct addresses and telephone numbers.

Silvia Lutucuta also said that "the diagnostic capacity has been evolving", hoping to decentralise testing to 15 provinces from 15 April.

On the other hand, she indicated that Angola has no prospect of testing the vaccine and will wait for results from other African countries.

Regarding the movement of people, he stressed that the priority is to defend the country, arguing that the provincial health fence, which prohibits entry and exit between the different provinces, is an appropriate measure, as is the closing of borders.

"We have to defend ourselves" because "the country is at risk", he stressed, adding that the borders with countries where there is community movement such as Namibia or the Democratic Republic of Congo (RD Congo) have been reinforced.
