National sailing duo qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Manuela Paulo and Matias Moutinho booked their ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Qualification for the Olympic competition came after the national sailing duo came first, among African countries, in the World Championship of the sport in the 470 class, which took place in Spain.

"The Angolan 470 pair, composed of Manuela Paulo and Matias Moutinho (team "2M"), managed to secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), informed the Angolan Nautical Sports Federation (FADEN), in a statement, to which VerAngola had access.

Manuela Paulo will be debuting in Olympic competitions, while Matias Moutinho has already competed in Olympic games. "This will be Matias' third participation and Manuela's first in the Olympic Games", the note reads.

The federation also states that, in addition to Manuela Paulo and Matias Moutinho, in the field of water sports, the country will also be represented in the Olympic games in sports such as rowing and canoeing.

"With this qualification, FADEN has four disciplines qualified for Paris 2024 (1x Rowing, 1x Canoe C2 and 2x Sailing in ILCA7 and 470)", says the federation.

The president of FADEN, Olga Albuquerque, quoted in another publication, to which VerAngola had access, congratulated the athletes linked to water sports who have already qualified for the Olympic games, namely Filipe André (men's ILCA 7 sailing), Benilson Sanda and Manuel António (men's canoeing C2 500 meters), André Matias (men's skiff) and Manuela Paulo and Matias Moutinho (Sailing 470 Mx).

"As president of the Angolan Nautical Sports Federation, I would like to express my deep gratitude to everyone for achieving the qualifications for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This moment of joy reflects your effort, commitment, dedication and love for nautical sports and serves an inspiring example for all athletes in our sports, as well as beyond", reads the statement.

According to Angop, the duo Manuela Paulo and Matias Moutinho completed the race in 59th place (309 points), ahead of Mozambique (60th position – 314 points).

It should be noted that the Olympic games will take place from July 26th to August 11th in the French capital.
