The qualification of the Clube Naval de Luanda rower came after he qualified in the top five places in the African Rowing Championship – Skiff, which took place in Tunisia.

The Clube Naval de Luanda, using its Facebook page, announced the Angolan's qualification.

"Angola and water sports have just qualified their first athlete, André Matias, for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, in the men's rowing category", reads the publication, which adds: "André Matias, from the Clube Naval de Luanda , just qualified this morning [Wednesday], by placing in the top five of the African Rowing Championship – senior men's sculls – the final of which took place this morning [Wednesday] in Tunisia".

In the publication, the club also takes the opportunity to congratulate the athlete.

"Congratulations André, congratulations Angola, congratulations FADEN, congratulations CNL", writes the Clube Naval de Luanda.

It should be noted that André Matias is no longer new to Olympic competitions: in 2014 he participated in the African tournament in Algeria, where he qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

According to Angop, at the African championship in Tunisia, guided by the national coach, Gilson Tenazinha, André Matias and Conceição Ngola were present, who competed for the place in the 2000 meter individual race, as well as the duo composed of Ricardo Martins and Irineu Meno, in the 2000 even meters.
