Unitel says that network problems affect 25 percent of customers and that “situation is being resolved”

Telecommunications operator Unitel said this Thursday that problems in voice and SMS services affect around 25 percent of customers and that the situation is "being resolved".

:

This is the third time in less than a month that Unitel customers are unable to make calls or send messages due to "instability" on the network.

A few hours after it was reported that thousands of customers were having communication problems again, Unitel informed, through its social networks, that voice and SMS services "have been experiencing instability since this morning [Thursday]", affecting around 25 percent of users, or three million people.

"This network disturbance is harming some customers in the province of Luanda in the areas of Baixa and Luanda Sul, Talatona and Kilamba, as well as in the provinces of Benguela and Cuanza Sul", informs the operator, without clarifying what is at the origin of this disturbance.

According to Unitel, "the situation is being resolved and should be normalized as soon as possible".

This morning, Lusa posed several questions on the subject addressed to Unitel, namely what has caused the instability and the allegations of lack of maintenance, but has not received an answer so far.

Last Saturday, Unitel had already registered "instability" on the network due to an "occurrence" that was not specified.

On February 17, Unitel registered at 5:30 pm a "breakdown of an important equipment included in one of the main data processing centers" in Luanda, which resulted in the unavailability of voice, data and SMS services until 10:30 pm of the same day.

The operator only guaranteed "total integrity" and return to normal services 24 hours later.
