According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the 55 member states of the organization is 4,203,087 and the number recovered in the last 24 hours is 8499, for one total of 3,762,968 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Southern Africa continues to be the most affected region, registering 1,906,807 infected, having passed today the 60 thousand deaths (60,002) associated with the contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,546,735 cases and 52,788 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,242,191 infected and 35,762 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 495,496 infections and 8937 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 432,452 and that of deaths is 5683. Central Africa has 126,141 cases and 2087 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,956 deaths and 201,432 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8,813 deaths and 495,421 cases.
Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8778 deaths and 252,171 cases, Algeria, with 3089 deaths and 116,969 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2841 fatalities and 204,521 infections.
In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 772 deaths and 67,466 cases, followed by Angola (536 deaths and 22,182 cases of infection), Cape Verde (168 deaths and 17,279 cases), Equatorial Guinea (102 deaths and 6914 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (61 dead and 3647 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (34 dead and 2221 cases).
