Covid-19: 360 more killed in Africa in the last 24 hours, for a total of 110,524

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded another 360 deaths by covid-19, totaling 110,524 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic, and 25,234 new ones infected, according to the most recent official data.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the organization's 55 member states is 4,148,866.

The region recorded, in the same period, 14,651 recovered, for a total of 3,705,369.

Southern Africa continues to be the most affected region, with 1,892,361 infected and 59,294 killed by contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,538,961 cases and 52,251 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,223,007 infected and 35,149 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 468,263 infections and 8,536 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 444,081 and the number of deaths is 5561. Central Africa has 121,154 cases and 1984 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,680 deaths and 196,709 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8775 deaths and 492,403 cases.

Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8610 deaths and 246,507 cases, Algeria, with 3066 deaths and 116,257 infected, and Ethiopia, with 3066 fatalities and 190,594 infections.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 750 deaths and 66,496 cases, followed by Angola (531 deaths and 21,774 cases of infection), Cape Verde (163 deaths and 16,555 cases), Equatorial Guinea (101 deaths and 6780 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (56 dead and 3586 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (34 dead and 2157 cases).
