Sílvia Lutucuta participated in the virtual meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the covid-19 pandemic in Africa, during which she reiterated the Government's commitment to proceed with vaccination against covid-19.

According to the official, Angola vaccinated 54,515 people, including health workers on the "front line" of combating the pandemic, as well as the elderly.

Angola records 21,489 cases of infection, including 522 fatalities.

Sílvia Lutucuta said that the authorities do not have records of serious adverse effects associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, from which the country received 624 thousand doses under the Covax initiative, which aims to guarantee the access of these low-income countries to these vaccines.

"We have a record of momentary effects, such as a burning sensation in the injection area, some nausea or headaches, which are temporary," she said.

And she ensured that all effects are being monitored, maintaining confidence in vaccines that, in her opinion, have a low ratio of serious adverse effects.

"We have to assess the risks, because we want to vaccinate people safely," he continued, recalling that "there is no 100 percent vaccine without effects".

Some countries in the European Union (EU) have temporarily suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine as a precautionary measure based on reports of cases of blood clots forming in people who received the vaccine, but the World Health Organization (WHO) continues to recommend its administration.
