Barra do Kwanza quarantine centre passes the treatment unit

The quarantine centre in Barra do Kwanza, where seven people were staying, will be emptied this Wednesday to be transformed into a treatment unit for the new coronavirus, the Secretary of State for Public Health said.

According to Franco Mufinda, more than 200 people have already passed through the two existing quarantine centres, with around 120 passengers staying until Tuesday in both places.

The governor, who was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, announced the departure, until Wednesday, of the "last group from Barra do Kwanza, to be prepared, in the future, to devote themselves exclusively to attending cases, while Calumbo will stay to manage the quarantine".

Franco Mufinda said that the majority of people currently in quarantine are Chinese living in the country and about 12 Angolans.

Wednesday "we will empty Barra do Kwanza, a group of seven people who stayed out, and then go to Calumbo, in terms of quarantine," he said.

The Barra do Kwanza centre has a capacity of 100 beds, while Calumbo has 250 beds, both professionals trained to deal with the suspicious cases, from the simplest to the most complex.

The ruler revealed that an exclusive quarantine centre is planned to be opened for the oil companies.

According to the Secretary of State for Public Health, the platforms continue to work, with only foreign residents and Angolans allowed to enter the country.

"They deserve our technical support, they have clinics too, but none are authorized to manage suspicious cases of Covid-19, it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health, their obligation is only to report suspicious cases," he said.

The site for the creation of the oil companies' quarantine center "is almost identified and the Ministry of Health is responsible for ensuring all technical assistance, training the people of these groups, doctors and nursing technicians, and also doing the surveillance as a health authority".

Angola has so far registered three suspected cases of Covid-19, of two Chinese citizens and one Croatian, the rest being people who have had criteria for quarantine, with China, Iran, South Korea and Italy on the list of entry restrictions.
