According to the finance minister, who spoke to the press at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by President João Lourenço, "the moment demands that this measure be postponed so that it is no longer a burden for families and companies that still depend of fuels to operate ".
"So, the executive decided to postpone this process of removing fuel subsidies for a date yet to be assessed, but that certainly will not be for the year 2020", said Vera Daves in statements to the press.
The Government has been analyzing the withdrawal of subsidies to oil products for some time, trying to create conditions so as not to affect essentially the most needy populations.
The executive and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreed on the end of fuel subsidies, which will only be applied simultaneously with a social transfer program for the most vulnerable families.
