Vice-President participates in a workshop on “Wetlands”

The Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, participates this Tuesday, through video-conference, in the “Workshop on Wetlands of International Importance”.

An initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment, the workshop will take place within the framework of Environment Week and Angola's commitments to the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as a habitat for water birds, dubbed the "Ramsar Convention" , precisely on the date that the "Day of Wetlands of International Importance" is celebrated all over the world.

The aim is to raise awareness and make people aware of the need to protect wetlands, with a view to preserving species in their habitats.

Participating in the event are members of the Executive, deputies to the National Assembly, representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), national and international defense organizations and individuals linked to academia and associations in favor of the Environment, according to a statement sent to VerAngola .

Angola has been a signatory to the "Ramsar Convention" since 2013, the first intergovernmental treaty to provide a structural basis for international cooperation and national action for the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, in particular wetlands and their resources.
