"The year-on-year change stands at 24.41 percent, an increase of 6.46 percentage points compared to the same period last year," reads the note released Monday in Luanda.
"Comparing the current year-on-year change with that recorded in the previous month (December 2020) there is a decrease of 0.68 percentage points," the note adds.
During the month of January, "the provinces that recorded the highest price increase were Luanda with 1.94 percent, Kwanza Norte with 1.93 percent, Lunda Sul with 1.78 percent and Bié with 1.69 percent," while the provinces with the lowest price increase were Cuando Cubango and Moxico with 1.46 percent each, Cunene with 1.45 percent, Kwanza Sul with 1.41 percent and Cabinda with 1.26 percent.
Looking at the breakdown of the classes that influenced price increases, INE said that the "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" class contributed the most to the rise in the overall price level with 1.11 percentage points during January, followed by 'Miscellaneous Goods and Services,' with 0.08 percentage points, 'Furniture, Household Equipment and Maintenance,' with 0.06 percentage points and 'Housing, Water, Electricity and Fuels,' with 0.05 points.
