According to the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the outbreak, 1153 cases have been reported, of which 789 in the province of Luanda, the country's capital, the epicenter of the disease, affecting people between 2 and 100 years old, mainly female (51 percent).
Since the beginning of the outbreak, a total of 45 deaths have been recorded, 32 in Luanda, eight in Bengo province and five in Icolo and Bengo province.
The most affected group is 2 to 5 years old, with 191 cases and six deaths, followed by the age group between 10 and 14 years old, with 155 cases and three deaths.
In addition to Luanda, the outbreak also affects the provinces of Bengo, Icolo e Bengo, Malanje, Huambo and Huíla, the last three regions with no recorded deaths.
The Ministry of Health has been calling on and raising awareness among the population to comply with preventive measures, such as drinking boiled water or water treated with five drops of bleach, and also that, in the event of diarrhea and vomiting, "immediately seek out a cholera treatment center or the nearest health facility."
Health authorities identified the outbreak of cholera, a contagious disease, earlier this month in the Paraíso neighborhood, in the municipality of Cacuaco, about 20 kilometers from the center of Luanda.
