According to Angop, the suspension has an expiration date that expires in 15 days, corresponding to the deadline for the commission of inquiry to investigate the events.
Although the events date back to December last year, it was only last Sunday (7 January) that the hospital unit's management found out about what had happened through a video posted on social media. According to Tomás Cassinda, the video ends up giving alleged signs of possible medical negligence on the part of the team in question.
Thus, he said, it was decided to "initiate this process" taking into account "the seriousness of the evidence": "The general directorate of Prenda decided to initiate this process in view of the seriousness of the evidence, within the scope of zero tolerance, decreed by the Ministry of Health, in September 2023, regarding the inhumane treatment of users in health units and other institutions", said the hospital director who, quoted by Angop, added that the aim is to investigate the facts and apply due responsibilities.
Tomás Cassinda also took the opportunity to regret what had happened, having sent his feelings to his family.
At issue is the death of a 40-year-old patient, on December 17 last year, in the emergency department of that hospital.
