The person in charge explained that previously people ended up dying without reaching the hospital and being diagnosed, thus contributing to the high number.
"At that time, there were more patients who died without reaching the hospital, without having a diagnosis, so mortality was very high, it was above 30 to 40 percent, today our mortality is around, within hemodialysis centers , is around 14 to 17 percent", he said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).
Although the rate has decreased, José Malanda considered that this number is still not satisfactory and that they intend to improve: "It is also a high mortality rate, which we would like to improve".
Regarding people currently undergoing treatment, the person in charge said that the number should be between 2200 and 2300.
"If we include people who are currently undergoing dialysis for acute kidney failure and also including children, then this number could reach up to 2200 or 2300", said the person in charge, quoted by RNA.
It is worth remembering that in October last year, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, announced that 2800 kidney patients were undergoing hemodialysis in the country. At the time, the Health Minister also said that the aim is to increase the number of hemodialysis centers in the country by 2027.
