MPLA encourages angolans to remain vigilant “against subversive and unpatriotic actions”

The secretariat of the ruling MPLA political bureau, the ruling party, on Thursday encouraged the angolan people to remain vigilant “against subversive and unpatriotic actions”, reiterating the condemnation of the acts of violence recorded on Monday, in Luanda.

The position is contained in the final communiqué of the first ordinary meeting of the secretariat of the political bureau of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), led by its leader, João Lourenço, who analyzed matters related to the party's internal life and others related to the promotion of sustainable development and diversified, "with the primary aim of solving the people's problems".

"Members of the secretariat of the political bureau reiterate their condemnation of the act of rebellion that took place on January 10th of this year, in Luanda, which altered public order, vandalized public and private assets and jeopardized the physical safety and lives of many citizens, in particular health and media professionals, to whom it sends its solidarity", says the note.

For the secretariat of the political bureau, it was "deplorable and irresponsible to take advantage of the stoppage of a small part of the taxis in Luanda, serving as a pretext for the practice of an act of terror, making evident the materialization of a macabre plan of ungovernability through the promotion of vandalizing public and private property, inciting civil disobedience, in an attempt to subvert democratically instituted power".

In the communiqué, the MPLA's commitment is reiterated "to remain inflexible and vigilant in the immense battle for the maintenance of peace and national reconciliation, appealing to the party's militants, sympathizers and friends to close ranks around comrade President João Lourenço, who leads relentlessly the processes leading to the promotion of human development and well-being of angolans".

To the angolan people, the message also encourages them to continue "firm in respecting the norms of healthy coexistence in difference, respect for authorities, public and private good, as a civic contribution to the construction of a more developed, democratic and inclusive Angola".

On Monday, following a strike started by taxi drivers, acts of violence were recorded in the Benfica area, which resulted in the destruction of a bus, set on fire by unidentified individuals, as well as the destruction of an MPLA building, to which was also set on fire, in addition to the assault on health professionals and journalists.

On the same day, the police announced the arrest of dozens of people, who were put on summary trial, some of whom have already been released.
