Mara Quiosa's appointment to the body was made through a decree, according to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access.
"In another decree, President João Lourenço appoints a member of the Council of the Republic, due to inherent duties, Mara Regina da Silva Domingos Quiosa, vice-president of the MPLA", reads the note.
Previously, the President of the Republic terminated Luísa Damião's term as a member of this body. "Today [Friday] the President of the Republic signed a decree ending Luísa Pedro Francisco Damião's term as member of the Council of the Republic," the statement said.
It is worth remembering that, at the beginning of the week, the MPLA Central Committee elected Mara Quiosa as vice-president of the party. The former governor of Cuanza Sul was elected with 585 votes, replacing Luísa Damião in the position.
